John Hunter is a physicist with a diverse career spanning satellite launch systems, hurricane mitigation, defense consulting, and even toy design.
In 2000, John co-founded Water Station, a volunteer initiative that installed and maintained over 150 water stations across the Southern California desert border to prevent heat-related deaths. His advocacy extended to addressing the dangerous conditions of the All-American Canal in Imperial County, leading to a 60 Minutes feature that ultimately prompted safety improvements and significantly reduced drownings.
Today, John and his wife, Laura, are focused on stopping hyperthermia deaths in the remote Growler Valley of the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge. Their solution: installing two strategically placed cell towers to provide life-saving communication for those in distress.

In 2000, Laura joined Water Station as one of its first volunteers, working tirelessly to reduce heat-related deaths in the desert. Her dedication to preventing drownings in the All-American Canal led her to co-found Citizens for All American Canal Safety in 2008. Today, as President of Cellular Rescue (formerly Water Station), Laura leads efforts to install critical cell towers in the Growler Valley, bringing hope and safety to a region where lives are at risk.
